A kilted grilling
Just a fun little experiance whilst kilted.
A couple weeks ago my Lady and I went to Wisconsin to see the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra at the Weidner Center (excellent concert, btw!). Before the show we went upstairs to get some coffee. I was wearing my green PK, cream hose, and a nice sweater, so not particularly dressed up but looking nice.
There were several ladies behind the counter, and the first question was actually about my eyewear (Being the eccentric fellow I am, I have a silver monocle I made, because I hate regular glasses. It's just for reading, but I had it in at the time.) So initially they were asking me about that.
Then one of them asked if I was in the performance. That caught me a little off gaurd, so I said no, I wasn't. She said she was curious because I was wearing my bagpipe skirt. (I suppose it's possible she wasn't aware that it was a jazz band playing that night. There are a couple celtic based groups playing later in the season.) So that got us talking about the kilt.
When we went back downstairs the head barristra thanked me for "being so good natured while being grilled."
(This was also my first time kilted outside the UP, much less Michigan).
It was indeed a thouroughly enjoyable evening.

Great story Nick. It is always good to have a good attitude about being kilted.
But that is the first I heard of a "bagpipe skirt"

The really funny thin is that she said she has a granddaughter or niece (I can't remember which) who's a piper in a pipe and drum band, so you'd think she'd know it's a kilt, not "bagpipe skirt."
First time I've ever heard of a bagpipe skirt, too.

Nick,
Whereabouts in WI was this concert. My dearly beloved and I are always on the lookout for different types of music. Went to the Nugent concert in Green Bay (kilted) and was sorely dissapointed! At least Teri liked it.

Weidner Center is in Green Bay, not that far north of me. Also, there's the Performing Arts Center in Appleton. The Black Watch and Welsh Guards will be in Appleton at the PAC on Feb 15.

In fact, some Yoopers think of da UP as Northern Wisconsin. Definitely more Packer fans up here than Lions. What's a transient Viking fan to do?
Of course, everyone knows that Northern MN, Northern WI, and da UP should secede and form the 51st State of Superior.

Nonsense. We should become a new Canadian Province.
