			hand knitted kilt hose

I have a friend of mine that has offered to knit me a pair of kilt hose if I buy the yarn and find a pattern for her. She knits socks top down (don't know why this is important) does anyone have such a pattern or know where I could get one. I found some books on amazon but the are out of print.
 Thank you all,

 Keith

					This one is top down:http://www.knitlist.com/99gift/popcorn-hose.htm

 This one is toe up:

Coats Crafts UK put out a booklet of kilt hose under their Patons label. I got one from Ebay, but there doesn't seem to be any up for auction right now. You can buy it from here:
 http://www.mcadirect.com/shop/produc...78a0e826c8ca22
 or here:
 http://www.iriss.co.uk/Socks1.htm
This pattern is top down, & includes to versions for the leg part, & 3 versions for the fold down tops.

I am not much of a knitter, & am still learning how to knit socks, so I can't really evaluate the patterns for you.

 Good luck,
 Sherry

 They're great!

I am fascinated by knitting & have come to it late. I grew up crocheting, & can crochet anything, if the tendonitis doesn't flare up. I am determined to learn how to knit socks, & I hope I can resist the temptation to only knit one of a pair before I lose interest & move on to a new pattern.
I have a book that is way beyond my capabilities, but maybe someday...
In the meantime, I want to share this resource in the hopes that some knitter will pick up the ball of yarn & make kilt hose based on the beautiful patterns in this book. It is Viking Patterns for Knitting by Elsebeth Lavold
 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/157...books&v=glance

She has devised a technique of knitting that makes the Celtic-inspired Norse knotwork knitted into her designs look truly interwoven. There is a pair of socks in the book, which could easily be elongated for kilt hose, but would need a turn-down top added.

Her research is so impecable that other artisans (carvers, metal workers) use her book for guidance.

Anyway, I hope someone reading will get inspired.

my wife worked at a hobby shop for about a year and a half I wont say the name , but St, MICHAELS would have liked it! lots of stuff around X-mas !!

anyways she was a freestyle knitist? i donno if thats the word for it but I gave her the basic idea of what I wanted and about a week later she came into work with two pair of cable kit hose ( no other design just the knot work on either side ) and popcorn top ...which when foled over was on the inside .,...but thats my fault cause I didnt say weather they were supposed to be on one side or the other.

 my point?

have her talk to someone from hobby lobby , or michaels to get her going in the right direction!! they could be a BIG help !
