Some women have narrow hips and tapered trousers don't fit them well, but men's trousers do.
Well, and some of us don't have the waist we used to, either. 
Boy cut is slightly larger in the crotch, a higher 'rise' (the area from crotch to waistband) and tends to be a straighter leg.
