Kilt at work - reactions
Today I had to signwrite a large earthmoving machine with CAT graphics in a workshop.
The workers there are accustomed to seeing me kilted, but this particular job involved climbing all over the machine, straddling stepladders etc.
A number of young mechanics were working around me, I was pretty focused on the job but then became aware of giggles, looks and sniggers. One lad glanced up the kilt then remarked to his mate - "I couldn't help myself".
I just turned to the nearest mechanic and said I thought they were pretty immature.
I just felt sorry for them having to wear overalls.
This was the job:

Sorry Graham, I'm going to be contentious.
For I do think there are some tasks more suited to trousers, and my reading of the story suggests that the lads were just being normal.
Here I'd suggest that the kilt will really have arrived, when it can be worn on a day to day basis without comment bo others-or thought by the wearer. Yet at the same time the wearer will on occasion accept that some activities are not suited to the kilt.

Yes James, the lads were normal, normal twits, but normal.
I agree, that 'day' has not arrived, nor will it probably.
There are times when I will change into shorts for a job, I keep a pair in my truck all the time for emergencies.
Today was not one of them.

Next time you have a gathering of twits, turn and ask, "Like what you see, lads?" Then you will really see immaturity as they squeal and scatter!
