    boots

It seems that the standard foot wear with kilts is some kind of dress shoe or day shoe (brogues included) and doc martins. On the doc martin note have any of you ever heard of wesco?

I was told about them at last nights sword gathering in portland. Apparently they will last you a life time with a little maintinance (sound familiar?) and since they are about an hour and a half away (I think, I've never actually been over that way) I can go in and get fitted for a boot.

I am looking at the packer, the fire stormer and the jobmaster as kilt boots. What do you think of these models? Would the taller boots work at all or is 16" just way too tall?

edit: I just found their socks. Several have a lot of wool but none are 100% wool. And most of them are tall, they would have to be with some of their boots.

Too much of a heel for a tall guy like myself, but some pretty cool looking boots. Very similar to some Dayton boot styles. I would think that the 16" may be too much, but it would be a personal preference and up to the wearer.

A style I recently found, which are very close to Doc's are the Deer Stag boots. I bought these a month ago and have worn them daily since. Nice soft leather that didn't need to be broken in, and very comfortable. Plus they were only $39.99

I too agree with Colin that the heel on the Wesco is a bit too high. Nice looking boot though.

I have a roughed up pair of Deer Stag's and a pair of Condor's which are also very similar, and they are also steel-toed.

They do have low heels available on the Jobmaster
    http://www.westcoastshoe.com/wesco/i...e/sole_232.gif
That is not the only sole they have the low heal for, just the only one with a picture. The Highliner, Harness, Boss, Motorcycle Patrol, and JH Classics have lower heal options.
So would that limit the good kilt options to Jobmaster and Highliner?

Note the Highliner starts at 10" high and the Jobmaster starts at 6" (I think that includes the 1" heel/sole which means it is probably less with a low heel) so it doesn't have to be *that* tall.

And not to say that the motorcycle boots wouldn't work at all with a kilt, just not my taste.

So with the lower heel option and in the range of 6" to what? 12" for the taller of us, would they work with a kilt.

Right now I have hightops that really don't work well and also some brown leather slip ons that seems wide and flat with kilt hose. So pretty much any good boot will probably work better, it will just take 8 weeks and the price of a good kilt to be made.

Look likes a good boot. A little pricey though.

But, I just wear good old fashioned combat boots.
