One advantage I noticed with Scottishkilts.net is they're part of a larger corporation that ships alot to the US. If you don't specify otherwise your stuff goes with other thangs in a corporate shipment and you don't get hit with duty at a later date. When I got my order I wasn't charged duty at all.

Good point Bubba. My jacket was only $32 in duty where I have heard of people paying way more than that for some stuff from other vendors.

Kilt store. That's probably a handy bit of information to include

Thanks, I was actually thinking that they had gone down abit, as I was never really considering them before. As Adam pointed out, the kilt prices are now based on the tartan as well. I am pretty sure Scottishkilts.net has raised their prices a bit as well, but that's not an issue.

Duties are one of the reasons I like ordering directly from the Hector Russel store in San Francisco. Things get sent over in large corporate shipments and then get shipped to me from California. No duties at all.

Another good one for that is the eBay seller Carse of Gowry (eBay id bauhausboy). He sells kilts made by a independent kilt maker in Scotland (one man shop) so if you do a special order/made-to-measure it can be a little while, but they also have off the rack/off the peg items. Last shipment I got from them had no duties on it either.

As I check kilt stores site tonight it appears the prices are fluctuating greatly virtually daily. Hmmmm, I wonder if kilt prices are some how proportionate to tpetrol prices? ;-)

That could very well be a factor. I haven't noticed, is it the base price (in Pounds) that's changing, or just the US dollar price? If it's just the US price, it's probably tied up in the exchange rate.

I bet you're right Dave. I'm only looking at the bottom line so a small swing in the exchange rate could sway the net value $20 or more.
