    Warmth

The two Cilts I have are, an 81/2yd 14oz and an 8yd 16oz heavy strome. I actually find my 14oz much warmer to wear than the 16oz. Whilst both are pure wool the strome one is not as 'soft' as the 14oz .. I can only guess that got something to do with it when it comes to heat retainment or something. Anyone any thoughts or can explain why this should be. Thanks.

Perhaps the 14 oz. has an ever so slight looser weave and traps a little bit more dead air space between the fibers. Thus increasing the overall insulation value.

I'll have second what John M said. A looser weave will have more space to trap and retain heat.
