I've seen that pic, & others, before. He is honoring all his ancestors, not just the N.A. ones.
Last summer, I came across a small article about a Scottish film company coming to the States to do a film of a tribal chief & his Scottish roots. I wish I could find it again.

Except I wouldn't expect to see a war bonnet being warn casually. :-)
That is so neat. I'm part Cherokee (but not enough to qualify for Tribal Membership since the intervening ancestors did not themselves apply for membership) and I love that picture!

It spread, just as kilts and tartan spread from highlands to lowlands to become a national dress. It's part of what's called the Pan-Indian Movement which is very visible at powows.
