The Nightstalker was an old TV show with Darren McGavin about a newspaper reporter who chased down vampires, werewolves and the supernatural. The reporters name was Karl Kolschak.

They tried to bring it back recently with an updated version, but it got canceled after just a few episodes.

...and I think that the old Nightstalker series succeeded because of Darren McGavin who played Kolchak. They tried to recast the role with some pretty-boy in the new one...jumped the shark before it even got on the air! McGavin's Kolchak was a sort of Oscar Madison (of the Odd Couple) type: a slob and disorganized with the ability to talk people into almost anything (they probably pitied him, he was such a schmuck) and just happened to run into every kind of superntural being imaginable and then bumble his way through to a happy conclusion...well, happy for everyone except maybe the vampire/werewolf/zombie/etc...

The new Kolchak was okay, but not as good as Supernatural.

I watched the first episode of the remake and didn't like it. Sorry, no way to be as good as McGavin in his rumpled suit.
