Im glad that this has turned out to be a "storm in a teacup" I would have been dissopointed if this young man had been fed all sorts of fairy stories about clan rivalries, The reality is far more brutal and shocking than most of us could ever imagine, Mike rightly mentioned the events involving the Lamonts and I know that he is a very proud of his Lamont heritage and is dedicated to Scots interests, I would add that its Vital that we stick to facts and place the events that happened into context, they were very very brutal and violent times so the events reflect that time, our ancesters were forced-rightly or wrongly to use devastating force in order to simply survive, to judge them now from a modern viewpoint isnt really fair, tretchery, deciet, murder, massacres are all part of the history of this country and Scotland is a sum of its parts.

I'm with you on that point.

Unfortunately, the old feuds tend to live far beyond the lives of the actual persons initially involved. There is a Star Trek next-gen episode based on that issue.

I too am glad to get "the rest of the story" (for our non North American members, the tag line of a well known radio personality here in the states). In this context I admire the Lad for his quick wit. Then again, I admire anyone who can "tweak" a deserving politician.

It was a long time ago. and I hate to think that this young man has had his head filled full of nonsense. We all know what went on a Glencoe, but you cant be held responsible for the sins of the fathers. not all Campbells are Traitors. lets move on.
I've known some right fine folk who proudly bear the surname of Campbell. Known a couple of downright villains by that name, as well. Who cannot say the same about their own family tree, if they've done a bit of worthwhile genealogical research?
Glencoe was a dreadful tragedy, and the ones who rightly bear the burden for the original decision are rarely blamed -- the "monarch" at the time not being the least of those. A Duncanson signed the bloody order -- are all the rest of Clan Donnachaidh to be condemned for that? It would be interesting to do some research into the surnames of those who actually were in the regiment at the time. It is my understanding that about 30 of their number were of Clan Campbell and its septs (but I could be mistaken by that figure); no one should be greatly surprised if names of their kinsmen would also be found numbered amongst them.
Forget that Glencoe happened? Never!
Forgiveness? That is up to the souls of those so egregiously deprived of life, hearth or home by the dishonorable action.
The rest of us need to get the *bleep* over it . . .
