I plan to do the same with my youngest son's Gunn Modern tie. I guess a moth ate the big hole in it, & my repair job just doesn't cut it--the hole is, of course, right in the front of the tie. I figured it would be best to recycle it into flashes & just buy a new tie for my son.

Great idea! I was actually thinking about converting an old tartan tie in Red Robertson that's much too small for me into a bow tie for more formal wear, but had absolutely no idea how/where to start . . .

Is there a pattern, instructions or the link to same somewhere here for making hose flashes? Seems to me I saw something earlier . . . Just doing a "search" should suffice, yes?

    Thanks for the inspiration.

That is an awesome idea! I have a number of old ties, in patterns and solids, from my consulting days. Cutting them up would provide intense satisfaction (can you tell I hate ties), and actually provide a useful kilt accessory at the same time!

    Thanks for that thought KCW...

Was so focused on finding a cool use for the old ties I forgot how much I hated them too!!

Looking forward to some satisfaction from cutting them up for flashes....making a "silk purse out of a sow's ear!"
