The new standards are $80, and from the looks of them, they are similar to the heavyweights of old! Sewn-down hips, full-length lining, nicer buckles, and a double fringe...I'm assuming he doesn't use quite as much fabric on the standards as he does on the heavyweights, or that it is a slightly lighter fabric, but man oh man the standard looks like twice the buy it used to be.
Merino wool for the heavyweights...please oh please I hope he has some sweet new tartans as well. I know everybody does Black Stewart, but if he decides to carry a heavyweight in Black Stewart I'll buy one in a heart beat.
Actually...not to knock the Shadow Tartan, but I'd love to see a Standard in black again, especially with the new construction. Or a dark brown. That's just me.

But how long must we wait?
Ok, I admit I'm a little impatient, but it is Christmas, after all.

Again, I'm not at liberty to "spill the beans" on the upcoming changes and additions, but it's well worth the wait. There are hints on the website that you can read now.;-)
They're making all the right moves and answering a LOAD of "wants" from the kilt-wearing community. The money, time, and designs that they're working with are outstanding. Quite frankly... I'm impressed!!!

From Stillwtaers web site:
" Heavyweights: We have had some fabric issues which had to be solved before Heavyweight production could start. We hope to have some ready before the holidays, but no promises at this point. Our next batch of Black Watch Heavyweights will be made from Australian Merino Wool, you will love the fabric as much as we do. Once that is running smoothly, we will do more solid black before considering any other tartans/colors. The re-design of our standard kilts has been our main focus lately."
Don't like the sounds of that

Well I can understand the HW Black Watch.
So for early 2006 we will see the Stillwater Heavy Weight in Solid Black and in Black Watch Tartan.
Gentlemen keep in mind that Stillwater is a for-profit business and is looking for the most profitable Kilts to sell. Black Watch sells very well in the USA and Solid Black appears to as well. I have 3 Solid Black kilts myself.
I am quite sure that if we offered to buy say 20 or 50 X-marks tartan kilts, all in the same size, for $150 each I bet Stillwater would make a batch. But there is some number below which he can not make a profit.
I say rejoice in the high quality and low prices of the 2006 Stillwater Standards and hope that the demand for heavy weights will tempt Jerry to try a few more tartans later this year.
