According to swk the difference between the prototypes and the new 2006 line is in the buckle. The new buckle is cast. The Prototypes have the old buckles. The other difference is in the lining. The Proto's have the original style lining while the 2006 models have a deeper lining.

All four of the prototypes were new tartans for the standard line - Wallace, Gordon, Hunting McLeod and Pride of Scotland. The Wallace and Gordons were only available before in the economy line. Glad tidings from Stillwater and good news for everyone!!
