There have been several folks hear talk about wearing the sporran on the hip while going thru daily business so I don't think it would be unsightly, although I might would consider using a more simple sporran in this application. Maybe one of the Buzz Kidder Celtic not day sporrans. http://www.usakilts.com/sporrans.php

By the way, I commend you on the way you are incroporating the kilt into contemporary fashion. This is yet more evidence of how practical the kilt is a practical garment even today.

I do it all the time. Make sure your sporrans are on leather straps - not chains, and made so they can swivel around on the strap.

I put mine to the side when working, running etc. sometimes even round to the back!

I've moved it to the hip occasionally to get it out of the way for one reason or another, but I don't wear it that way. But I agree that is a casual, everyday situation, wear it however you like.

I personally like having my sporran on the front. I find it more convenient when I'm looking for my lighter.

Oh yes while walking with an exceptional fast gait, that is the only way to do it. As Graham has stated make sure you use a leather strap and NO CHAIN.

One more thing when you get to your destination, make sure to move it back to the front while partying (hey, you are always partying while kilted).

I usually wear my sporran in front as I walk around the city, but if I'm running for any reason, or doing some other activity where my legs are lifting more than usual (such as contra dancing) I'll definitely pull the sporran around to one side or the other (usually my right side, because I'm right handed).
