    Of kilt hose and bows.

    On the kilt hose, any slightly longer than knee high wool socks with a color to match and/or complement your kilt will do. The "slightly longer than knee length" is so a small edge can be turned down to hide the tops of the flashes. You are quite right originally the flashes were the tips of a ribbon used to keep the hose up in the days before spandex. You could just use a bit of ribbon and cut off the excess so that about 5 CM shows out the bottom. To find good wool socks, try an Alpini (outdoor) shop.

    On the jacket I bought a used jacket and had a tailor cut it off at waist level and do a 45 degree cut on the front two corners. It looks good and cost little. See the above post.
