I think the issuse was more a matter of Charles not wearing the Black Watch tartan based on their role in the war, and his position in their ranks as Colonel-in-Chief of the Black Watch Regiment and Deputy Colonel-in-Chief of the Highlanders.
Again, at least he was kilted.
Welcome to the board episcopalscot! Nice to have you join us.

Prince Charles...
No arguement there, Colin -- he should have worn the government tartan for the Watch.
I do agree with the postings on this thread that Prince William had better get into a kilt quickly, though -- he should follow his grandfather's example, HM King George VI -- he was a man and a monarch!
Thanks for the welcome!

Episcopalscot,
Sorry to have to correct you there, but HM King George VI was Prince William's great grandfather. His grandfather is HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, but he would also be a good role model for William, as he also wears kilts.

A royal gaffe...
Apologies for that -- I forgot the "great"!

I'll second that, I know that your posts will be the ones to watch!
Glad to see you here. Thanks for the info on Stewart Hunting, I didn't know that (any day now, any day)

Just noticed...
Just had another look at the picture of Prince Charles @ Normandy, and I noticed that his tie is the Regimental tie of the Gordon Highlanders, not the Royal Scots or the Black Watch!
I'm not sure if the Highlanders have a new regimental tie or not -- they must have now. The Gordons were amalgamated into the Highlanders back in 1994.
Interesting!

I know this is a very old thread, but I thought I'd resurrect it for a moment to say that I've always felt a bit sad that I wasn't born a subject of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Though I am an American, I am definitely a monarchist.
