I agree with Graham, if you can't wear a kilt whenever you'd like in Scotland than where can you wear it.

dropped out of kilt wearing circles

Thanks all for your encouragement. Well today I put my favourite and most comfortable trousers in the wash and donned the black kilt, with black hose and shoes and plain leather sporran; black tee-shirt and a black fleece on the upper half. Wore it to go into town to the post office and town hall in the morning; then took the wife to Ford Kinnaird Shopping Centre in Edinburgh; finally round the supermarket for the week's groceries and the kilt felt as comfortable as it always used to be; wasn't an issue at all; didn't feel strange; didn't get any weird looks or comments. Never saw anyone else in a kilt all day, though there were a couple of hardy young men in shorts at the shopping centre. Yes, the kilt is normally only worn, even in Scotland, for special occasions such as dinners, dances, weddings and funerals; shame it's not worn more. The main issue with wearing a kilt for flying would, I think, be the awkwardness getting in and out of these small 'planes, but maybe I'll give it a try some time.

Be glad your wife supports you in this effort, and renew your heritage with the greatest garment every invented for a man to wear. I wouldn't worry about age or how your legs look. I just started wearing kilts this year and I'm 59. In fact, I think I'm the only man in town that wears one. I think that some grey hair actually adds a little class to your kilt wearing - doesn't have to be a full head of hair either.

You'll find all the support and encouragement you will ever need from your brothers here at Xmarks.

    Aye, welcome,

I'm 61 and get leg compliments from the ladies.

Glad you're able to wear the kilt in the old country. Enjoy the comfort.

Would think the kilt provided comfort when flying...?

    Greetings C152...

I think it's wonderful that you've decided to dust off you kilts. In a trousered world, it's easy for any man to harbor a bit of doubt from time to time but this group is, without a doubt, the best resource on the net for general information, history, shared experiences, and encouragement. I'm glad you've decided to join in and help keep the spirit of the kilt alive!

And don't forget that the doors here at Xmarks are open 24-7-365!

During the colonial period it was said the the sun never goes down on the British Empire.
Nowdays it can be said that the sun never goes down on the kilt!
