Wore it to go into town to the post office and town hall in the morning; then took the wife to Ford Kinnaird Shopping Centre in Edinburgh; finally round the supermarket for the week's groceries and the kilt felt as comfortable as it always used to be; wasn't an issue at all; didn't feel strange; didn't get any weird looks or comments. Never saw anyone else in a kilt all day, though there were a couple of hardy young men in shorts at the shopping centre. Yes, the kilt is normally only worn, even in Scotland, for special occasions such as dinners, dances, weddings and funerals; shame it's not worn more. The main issue with wearing a kilt for flying would, I think, be the awkwardness getting in and out of these small 'planes, but maybe I'll give it a try some time.
What will it take for us to see a revival of the kilt in the Celtic countries?

    Alex,

My apologies for coming in late on this thread, but I can only reiterate what the others here have already said.
I am near the south coast, in West Sussex, and I wear the kilt every single day (you won't find a pair of trousers in my house!). I come up to Auld Reekie on average three times a year and always bring a selection of kilts with me (and frequently bring home more than I set out with!). These will be various tartans and plain-coloured traditional kilts, together with contemporary kilts such as 'Utilikilts', 'Freedom Kilts', etc., etc. - and I have yet to receive any form of attention up there, other than the complimentary variety. On top of all that I will be 70 next year, so don't let's hear any more about your not having the legs for kilt wearing!!!

You'll see a selection of my kilts in my photo album - link below.

Me must try to meet up next time I am north o' the border.

dropped out of kilt wearing circles

Went out for our Christmas meal to Peebles where we met some family. Wore my Cunningham tartan kilt, first time for over a year. Unfortunately having persuaded the one other family member who owns a kilt to wear it he was taken ill and couldn't attend so again I was the only one in a kilt. Wife left the family presents in the car and sent me out to the car park to fetch them; too good an opportunity to miss and I went for a short stroll along the high street and back; it felt really comfortable stepping outdoors in a heavyweight woollen kilt on a cold day. So that's two kilts worn this Christmas and one to go; must wear my black watch kilt on Hogmanay.

I suspect that most of the membership here will be doing something similar!

    Cheers,

Yes I read this a few minutes ago and wondered why this thread had been revived. Still it was interesting to read again and see how the addiction has since taken hold, and yes, I did subsequently meet up with Hamish, twice so far.

That was kind of my point. In the last couple of days there have been 10 welcomes (5 just today - 1 from cessna) for Killiansirishred a person who while having only a few posts has been a member for almost 14 months. This kind of thing has gotten silly, and has really become a pet peeve of mine (this is my third attempt to bring it to peoples attention.

A welcome when someone is new is nice and friendly. A welcome to someone who has been here over a month just says, "I'm not paying attention." Please people look at who you're welcoming, that's all I ask.

Of course I'm also bumping my post count since I''m almost an elder.

    Adam
