SOMEWHERE I THOUGHT I SAW A POSTING MENTIONING A SANTA TARTAN. I'VE BEEN A PROFESSIONAL SANTA AND IT'S A JOY. MY SISTER WANTED ME TO DRESS UP AS SANTA THIS YEAR BUT, I WANTED TO WEAR THE IRISH NAT. SHE EVEN OFFERED TO BUY THE SUIT. NOW, I'M SEEING AN OPPOURTUNITY HERE.

I think the Prince of Wales would make a great Santa kilt. It's red, white & green!

There was a kilted Santa at the richmond Celtic Christmas show this year. He was wearing a tartaned kilt which had a lot of red and green in it. I'm not sure what tartan, but I think it was just one of the standard ones.

mmm,... Somebody knows smthg about this?, I heard some time ago, that St. Niklaas (St. Nicholas), as origin of Santa, was dressed in GREEN in origins, but it was Coke who changed colours as some kind of advertisement, and adapted the traditional view to a white-red that could match with their label and colours.

So, if it's a matter of being authentic, maybe the Irish nat. would be perfect for a Santa's dress!

NOTE: Here in Spain we are not really followers of Santa. Just the 25% of the presents were given on Xmas. Eve. Our trad. are the "Three Magic Kings" (Melcior, Kaspar and Balthazar) and they're for the 6th of January. Most of the people follows our traditional way, the ones who also have Santa are following both, so the kids got presents for Xmas, and also for the 6th. of January!

I've played the role of Santa for the last 30 years. Don't need a false beard ( or a pillow) anymore, although thankfully I still need a bit of dye in the beard and hair. The last 3 or 4 years I've added this ensemble to the wardrobe.

This was taken in 2004 at the Alexandria VA Scottish Christmas walk. The kilt is a gray Stewart from USA Kilts. I've been looking at a couple of other tartans from USA Kilts, with a bit more red and green in them for future use. As you mentioned, it's a joy the play the part, and the kilt adds a new kick.

The Skene Tartan is red and Green,

But If you were going with something to match the rest of the outfit I would go with something that is almost all red and not to many other colors.

I was hoping for something like that .Any ideas?The red I mean as a green santa suit would be hard to come by even though I like the idea. More Irish, you know?
Also I do have a lot of green santa claus ornaments in my collection.

There's always the Robertson Red -

And if you don't want it in wool, MacHummel, Rocky or Bear have it in PV.
(For those who haven't seen it "live," the stripes that look black are a very dark blue.)

And with the legends of Saint Nicholas starting in among the Dutch, how about the Dutch tartan -
