What's exactly a 16 oz. kilt? Mine has no labels inside but the maker (McCalls, Aberdeen). It is very heavy, but great to wear.

There are quite a few differences. 16oz. wool vs. 12 or 8oz wool vs. PV or acrylic and multiple types of blends. There is also the matter of how many yards, such as 4-5 yards vs. 8 yards. The difference is night and day. To give you some idea about a 16oz 8 yard kilt, they have earned the nickname of "Tank".

Then of course there are the Utilitkilts, Freedom Kilts, Sportkilt, Stillwaters, etc... these are variations of tartan and non-tartan; pocketed and non-pocketed.

Man, just the thought of all of the different types of kilts is getting me all strung out. I wonder if I can order another one without my wife freak'n out? Probably not... but the couch isn't THAT uncomfortable....

If there is no label inside the kilt, how can I know which kind of wool I have?

If you don't mind my asking, how much was it?
The total cost including the extras (shipping and charcoal kilt hose) ended up being $570 cdn. Considering my local shop's cheapest kilt is $800 I consider this a heck of a deal. Scottishkilts also offers the same kilts but machine made for just over $100 cheaper. However I figured since this was my first journey into traditionas, why not pay the extra and get the handsewn.

Colin, my friend - absolutely First Class! I'm betting that Jill is SO proud to be seen out with you wearing it.

Congratulations on the fine investment(s) which suit you so well. I'm with David in that I'd really like to see some daylight shots of that beautiful kilt.

And a close-up of the kilt would be nice, too. From a distance it is absolutely awesome.

Next time we see daylight, I will take some shots. It has been raining here for a week or two now and the daytime is not much brighter. I will also get a few close up shots. It is a beautiful kilt and I am extremely proud to be the owner.

In the meantime, let's just pretend this is a real outdoor shot.

I now you will really enjoy the traditional design of wearing the kilt high on the waist. It takes a little getting used to. After buying two Stillwaters, I have become a traditional design convert.
