    Too Green?

Naw... That Irish National tartan is pretty bold! When I wear mine you can see me coming a mile away

Look forward to seeing more of the site!

Wow folks...pretty encouraging for the most part!

That's funny that you all mention the green being so bright...it doesn't look bad on my computer, but then again, I have an older notebook. I'll check it out at work today, and then adjust, since that seems to be the overwhelming comment.

I was thinking of using different tartans as backgrounds for different pages. We'll see how that goes.

Isn't that an Irish tartan you use for your background? Is XMarks not enough for a beginner? It was for me.

    Why re-create the wheel?
Yes, it is an Irish Tartan. Does that matter? Me thinks it doesn't.

And, as others have pointed out, the goal of the site would be a place to get quick information as needed. The task of searching or posting a question and waiting for a response might be eliminated. I'm not trying to compete with XMarks (But of course there is nothing stopping me from doing so ), I'm just trying to create a place that has information at the ready. It's just as much a learning process for me as it is a tool for others. I'm in the early stages of making web pages, so with each page I make, I learn something new (about web design). Hopefully with more practice, my pages will be better and better.

Ian...I write my own HTML. I'm not the best at it, but it seems to work ok. I don't have any of the programs you mentioned, therefore I do it all on my own, with help from tutorials from web page developement sites and friends on another forum.

What arrows? The boxes, I think most folks can figure that out where to go.
How about shirts, plaids, shoes, and moving hats from the belts. A note on kilt pins and brooches. Maybe order it from head to toe.
    Yup, bored
Got the arrows fixed. I think it looks a bit better.

I'm hoping I can do this. Submissions greatly appreciated!

Thanks all. I'll keep you guys posted. I won't be working on it again until next week.

Och! You code it all by hand, eh?... dang. That is like trying to conceive a child standing up in a hammock: what you are doing is great and rewarding, but there are easier ways! This is good though, that is the best way to learn web-design in my opinion. All my web-design started out using a basic text editor (Pico).

The best thing out there is Dreamweaver MX from Macromedia. It takes away all the tedium of building web-pages, style sheets, and coding JavaScript. It makes the process fun and fast. However, it is not cheap. There is, of course, Microsoft's Front Page. It is just evil and retarded. I hope you are at least using a powerful code oriented text editor. Emacs is the best in that regard (and it is free), and I still use that on occasion cause it can do stuff even Dreamweaver can't. Below are some links to lists of free editors...

    Well the confusting stuff...

When I first found XMarks it took a lot of questions until I got the brown belt went with the brown shoes thing for daywear. Where I grew up in louisiana, you either wear a t-shirt or a tuxedo, there is not a in between set of clothing because of the heat. Doctors can be seen in shorts and a polo shirt. The concept of "daywear" was and is quite alien to me.

So perhapse a photograph and and an explanation of what and why for:

    A. Daywear,
    B. Semi-Formal, Four-in-Hand Tie
    C. Formal, Black Tie
    D. Ultra Formal, White Tie
    F. Over the top pipe band boogie.
    G. RenFair Wear
    H. Highland Games Wear
    I. Goth Wear of the kilt
    J. Cross Dressers
    K. Military Wear of the Kilt
    L. The Great Kilt
    M. Casual Kilts

Yup, all by hand, more or less. I got the basic set-ups for some pages using Yahoo! Geocities, then modified those pages. Now Ijust take a page I already have done, and change it to suit my needs.

I don't use any of those programs because I can't afford them. My brother sent me an older version of Dreamweaver over the net, but it never installed properly, and so it didn't work.

I use Notepad for my text editor.

I do it by hand, not only because I can't afford not to, but because it helps me learn the code, etc. I enjoy doing, but of course I wish my pages could be a bit more dynamic, at times.

I'm still trying to figure out CSS, and currently don't use it. Someday I'll figure it out.

    Great Idea!!

If you could, try to include Thompson's explaination of all the Clan/Sept Tartan foolishness.

There seems to be so much un-necessary hair pulling and sleep loss over this topic!

I'm an old-handcoder myself but I've switched to Dreamweaver now. Do all my own site work on my Stained Glass site. I used to do computer work but I enjoy the glass work much more.

If you have any questions or need any help, feel free to drop me a line either using XMarks or at my real email address. I'd also be willing to give you my number for phone help if you want it (as long as you promise not to call too late at night  ).
