Would that make the "closet" kilt wearers? Or would it be better to say that they have "kilt-wearing" tendencies but do not feel able to express this due to societal pressure?

Sorry, I just finished watching the movie "Kinsey" on cable and I guess it started to rubb off.

Yes, most of my Kilts are in the closet. 8)

But, seriously, I think you hit the nail on the head. I believe most men would be wearing Kilts most of the time if not for "societal pressure".

Geez...I've ranted about this stuff before! Is everybody out for the Kevin Smith look or what? Thus, I say to my family (when they give me a weird look for showing up in the kilt), "Okay...look at these jokers....if they can parade around like that, no one can say anything bad about the kilt."

    Skirts ahoy!

I've also seen many men wearing gang bangers. From my point of view they look like hell (forgive the theology). The other day an older gentleman (older than me at 60) made the comment that those baggy pants just show they really want to wear skirts. He wasn't saying it negatively, he wasn't wearing a kilt, he simply was observing that the direction of men's clothing seems to be headed for skirts!

I was talking to a friend today while in my black UK original. We were sitting outside a restaurant waiting for another friend to arrive). When this other friend arrived, he asked where's your kilt? I stood up and said right here. He then told me he thought I was wearing those baggy shorts. A reverse double take.
