Elsie Stuehmeyer (my co-author and the woman I learned kiltmaking from) has been offering a kiltmaking camp for 15 years or more. It's held in conjunction with the Braemar School of Highland Dance every summer in June or early July in Troy, NY. You pay about $350, which covers lodging and meals at Emma Willard School (where they have the dance camp), you bring a kilt length of tartan, and the school lasts from Sunday night through Friday noon. Every year the camp runs, almost everyone finishes a kilt in that length of time, and those that don't have only a little more left to do. It is, in fact, how I learned how to make kilts. The camp typically has 8-10 participants.

It is _really fun_. If you guys ever wanted to run an XMarks kiltmaking workshop for people to learn how to make trad kilts, I'd love to teach it and, if it was possible to cover my travel, I'd do it for free.

Or, if you wanted to take Steve up on his offer, I'd love to come out to do the trad kilt part. And I could work with Steve on the book either before or after.

    Cheers,

    Barb

Thumbs up That'd be swell ...

For those of us that are " heckier" (where'd you get that word?) from Scotland and won't be able to attend the Meet-Up, I think Steve has the best offer so far. The Island is Beautiful, the Butchart Gardens would be a good event as would Afternnon Tea at the Fairmont Empress.
Steve and Barb as teachers? Waaay cool !
Get to the planning and scheming.

CT - the week of Sept. 19th would be ok with me ...

Hmmm... Kilt Kamp at Freedom Kilts in Victoria, with Steve Ashton and Barbara Tewksbury as teachers (or counselors, so that GMan gets into his bunk on time)?

Hmm, Hmm, Hmm.... I would be AWFULLY tempted to attend. I'm gonna do a little bit of research, here...will report back.

I'm definitely interested to see if this gets off the ground. If it does, I might be interested in attending.

    This is an awesome idea.

Being on the East Coast and in that mindset, I wonder if the Tartan Museum in the mountains of NC would be a place that could host this?
