I do not wear a clergy shirt, but rather a black (or grey on Pascha) cassock with pectoral cross.
Yeah, I wear it in public, and I get less notice than any kilt wearer. No one mistakes me for anything but an Orthodox Christian priest (though one Jewish family asked me if I was a rabbi - they said that the cross threw them off! - but I think they were self-made Levitical protestants pretending to be Jewish, not actual Jews. Hey, my wife is a Jewish Christian, so she has a good detector of such things)
With my beard, you wouldn't see the collar anyway.
Orthodox nuns are also referred to as mother, if professed, or sister if not.
Orthodox Chrisitanity has never had priestesses or pastorettes, so no worries there.

Here's something I forgot to send after christmas. Me and my mother after christmas eve service at the church of Lavia. She is a Lutheran priest and is in fact wearing a black shirt but she also wears gray at least (Notice my christmas hair which I had to remove after christmas because I couldnt wear it at work)

Ackwell, great pic, you both look nice.
In this part of the country a lot of Lutheren, Presbyterian and Anglican clergy wear black. I wear blue simply as an alternative.
Here's a bit of trivia. The notch on the Catholic collar is 3/4" in width and on protestant collars it's 1 1/2 in width.

At the risk of sounding like evryone's 5 year old child....why? Is there a reason for the differing specs (or for the notch in the first place)?

Great pic, Ackwell....
I should take a shot at getting my pastor into a kilt. He'd look great.

Ackwell, that is a great pic! Do you use permanent hair color or was that just a temporary coloring? I have been lightening/coloring mine for the past year and was curious.
Rob...the topics we discuss here will never cease to amaze me...

When i was in high school, our priests/teachers (BASILIANS, PRIESTS OF THE COMMUNITY OF ST. BASIL.) most wore black shirts, except in summer they wore gray or blue. Up to that point i had never seen a priest in any color but black. As to nuns vs. sisters. My aunt was a nun (SSJ), but was addressed as sister. We only adressed the Mother Superior as sister until we found out that she was Mother Superior, than called her Mother.
so thats my 2 cents

I too really enjoyed the picture Ackwell. The dyed hair and the red tie are very festive. Along with the red your mother is wearing, you both look stunning
