Kilt for big and tall folk

So a friend of mine now wants one of his own. Here is the fun part, he is a little outsized. Does anyone have some input for fitting a fellow 6'8", 325-345pounds?

WOW, he is a big guy! Once he's kilted I doubt that anyone would have the guts to make snide comment to him.

I can't think of anywhere that will have an off-the-rack model. His best bet is to get one made to measure but for someone that size most places charge extra.

Try giving Rocky & Kelly over at USA Kilts.

With your big and tall friend, please caution him to stay away from some contemporary kilt styles. I have found that trying to fit a large man in a kilt worn on the hips is sometimes impossible. It's a matter of Geometry. Most kilts worn on the hips will have a drop in the neighborhood of 18.5 to 22.5 inches. This paired with a waist measurement of anything over 50 inches will cause the wearer to flash each and every time they bend. Even slightly.
Have him stay with traditional kilts that use a traditional rise of at least 2 inches.

    I wear the kilt because:
    Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

Now there's an image I didn't need in my head!

But it's a very good point. I hadn't even thought of that.

A chap of that calibre or even larger turned up a few years ago at a gathering, swathed from top to toe in the brightest of bright Red Robertson--quite terrifying, and creating an overpowering need for sunglasses-I think he was from Carolina!

Suggest that a well cut traditional kilt will look fine, but would advise one of the more muted tartans.

I completely agree with Steve on this one. www.scottishkilts has some great deals on 5 yard casuals and 8 yard machine sewn traditional kilts. For someone that size he should really be looking at a tailor made garment.

Does he want traditional or contemporary. And is price an issue?

Utilikilts make large sizes and it'll be under 300$
