To quote the characters in the movie, Without a Paddle:

I was thinking of a USA casual or a Sportkilt I'm looking to run a 10 miler in May which would probably be the longest race, unless I get motivated to do the 1/2 marathon in September.
I seriously don't mean to sound, I don't know, derogatory, but why don't you just try running in a kilt? You can read all the web pages you want, and take advice from all sorts of people, but if you go out there and try to run five miles in a kilt you'll know immediately if it's comfortable, and what changes you might have to make.

It's a good picture, KT, goes to show how versatile the kilt is.

I ran a 5 miler back in December in a kilt in Baltimore (Celtic Solstice run in Druids Park) and there were no problems. I had my ususal running shorts on underneath. I've never run in it during the summer - that's triathlon season. There was a group of spectators (mixed gender) that would bow and genuflect whenever a 'kilt' ran by. It also garnered the attention of some of the fairer sex who were also running.

    Happy running!

One quick update....as to playing soccer in a kilt, I highly suggest an undergarment to keep the boys in check. All that turning, spinning and other such soccer-type movements are bound to pu the boys in a less-than-desireable position...I wore spandex shorts to ensure that I was never at any risk of injuring myself.

As to the road-race, as long as you are in such a manner where you are able to avoid getting the boiys "pinched" between your legs as you stride, I think bodyglide should be plenty...
