To the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns...
On this 247th anniversary of the birth of Scotland's National Bard, Robert Burns, let me join in his wish:
Then let us pray that come it may
As come it will for a' that,
That Sense and Worth o'er a' the earth,
Shall bear the gree an a' that.
For a' that, an a' that,
It's comin yet for a' that,
That man to man, the world, o'er
Shall brithers be for a' that.
-- "A Man's a Man for a' that"
Let the toast today be:
"To the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns!"
A last request, permit me here,
When yearly ye assemble a',
One round, I ask it with a tear,
To him, the Bard, that's far awa'.
And, for your perusal, a web page from the National Library of Scotland about RB:

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
My heart's in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer;
Chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
My heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go.

I met my wife thanks to Robbie. I went to the library to find a book of
Burns work. I like the friendly librarian so much that I checked her out
permanently.

Here's ta' Rab.
I'm still disappointed that I did not find a Burns Supper near here. I'll organize one for next year, myself.

Burns Suppers for the home are very easy to organise. Let me know if I can be of any help! ;)

Burns Day
We used to have a choice of Burns suppers to attend locally and often went to two or three during the week of Burns night. Unfortunately there was a bad outbreak of E-Coli in this area a few years back and the victims had all attended a Burns Supper in a local village hall. The source was traced by environmental health officers to sheep dung in the stream which supplied the water to the hall. Because of all the health and safety legislation and claim culture nowadays nobody seems willing to organise any Burns suppers since then.

Cheers to all!
Perhaps the village can get the water authorities to test the water at the hall before an event, & then everyone can share in a happy Burns Night.
