From looking at the picture of the pleats in the back something is way out of whack on this one... they just dont line up right....

I say wait until the TFCK crew to get here & look at thier product first hand before purchasing.

Or head to one of the ladies in Chinatown as discussed previously and get them to whip one out for you - gotta love Canal Street!!!

    ITS A KILT, G** D*** IT!

My fingers are alrteady bleeding from all the kilts i am making for myself... if you want to get added to the queue we will have to chat...

Seriously - i will do the kilt & vest but if you could get someone else to do the jacket out of teh same fabric it woudl be best - speaking from past experience jackets are a pain to do - especially fitted ones...

And dont think i will let teh seamstress comment go unpunished... methinks a strategicly placed weak seam that happens to POP at just the right moment might be suitable revenge...

Hmmmm sounds like we may have a deal...we'll have to take a trip to Mood and pick out the right stuff and then see how much it would cost to do the jacket as well...

    Pinstripe Kilt

I've just bought a Mercy Kilt, in all black. I already own a heavyweight all wool Scottish black kilt and I have to say that the very cheap Mercy kilt looks the part as a Scottish Kilt though material is very light cotton/polyester. I think the pleats/apron may need ironing to keep them looking smart but otherwise it will be a presentable garment to wear in warm summer weather. Am writing up details on the other thread "Popularising kilts by reducing the cost."

    Hi 646,

Of course, it all depends upon what you want and what you are prepared to pay - whether you opt for a 'Mercy' kilt or wait to see Howie (TFCK) when he goes to NYC in April. I have seen one of the 'Mercy' kilts and, I'm afraid, I would shout for Mercy if I were forced into wearing one - even in the summer!
They are not badly made (not 'tailored' of course) for what they cost, but the fabric is very lightweight indeed and will be difficult to control in a moderate breeze. In all honesty, it is not really suitable for a man's kilt.

I have two pinstripe kilts. One is a black with red pinstripes, very nice indeed, BearKilt (I love it!). The other is a mid-grey with light grey pinstripes, medium weight TFCK kilt - part of a kilt suit, but I often wear the kilt separately. Both the kilt and the suit are just fabulous. Here are a couple of photos of the TFCK one:

'BearKilts' is probably not an option at the moment. My advice therefore, would be to wait to see Howie in April. He will have swatches of maybe 20 different weights, colours, etc., all in pinstripe. Better still, call him TollFree on 1 800 566 1467 (remember, the time difference - they are in Edinburgh!) to discuss the options and perhaps send you swatches ahead of his visit to NYC. Believe me, TFCK will NOT disappoint.

Seriously, Hamish you look as good as you always do.
