US St. Andrew's tartan...
Matt beat you to it Sherry, back on page 1 of the thread!
Incidently, while the US St. Andrew's tartan is sometimes known as the "Bicentennial" tartan, I have always understood that it was never officially adopted by the National Bicentennial Committee as the "official" tartan, so it became the US/St. Andrew's.
Cheers,
Todd

Firstly, I would never wear the Flag as an article of clothing and I am very cautious about the appearance in any red, white and blue fabric. I also tend to avoid people wearing the Flag...it seems to make my knuckles hurt.
That said... Its late and I am tired so if you have the time, energy or inclination then I suggest you google Flag decisions made by the supreme court back in the late 60's to early 70's period (I know, most of you will claim to be too young to remember that time). If I remember correctly they set aside the Flag code and, using the first amendment, ruled that clothing could be made from material resembling the Flag or even from the Flag itself.
Now I have this gastly picture of a red white and blue kilt in my mind. Alternating, vertical red and white pleats with a solid blue apron sporting 50 white stars. ewwww

I agree, just becasue you can do it, doesn't mean you should.
It remids me of a trip I took to Graceland in Memphis. Everyone thinks of Elvis as a pretty cool guy but he had no taste when it came to decor. Yellow shag carpet on the ceiling, the jungle room with white faux fur and stuffed monkeys hanging all over the place, ugh! He was totally within his right to do it but he really shouldn't have. I think a US Flag kilt would be about as tasteful. I'd stick to the tartans if I wanted to demonstrate patriotism.

I'm not sure if you all understand that the flag that we call "Old Glory" is more or less a flag of war. There is another less recognized American Flag of Peace. It isn't used much any more but is still an American flag. I don't know if it will transfer with this message but if not I will send it to anyone that includes an email address.
Chris.
Nope, I can't get it to paste, does anyone know how I can tranfer it from my pictures to Xmarks?

Just adding my thoughts here. I think it possible to design a kilt that has some kinship to the stars and stripes but looks really good. I don't particularly like the one pictured, but if someone else likes it, more power to him. People sometimes react to what I am wearing the same way probably, which is what I try and remember.

Thanks for catching that Cameron! I seemed to have opened a can of worms.

The local WalMart has red & white flag stripe twill, and the Blue star field twill.
By pleating it to the stripe (red) It would be a red kilt, and I would use the blue for the aprons. The white stripes would "flash".
But I think the whole thing would be WAY TOO BOLD!
Might be fun to try though!
This is a very cool Idea. If I do this it would be something like this. Think "uncle Angus" This is the kind of kilt you wear on the 4Th with a top hat and a beard!! You guys get it ? Some of you did. By the kilted Gods you guys wanna avoid that poor unfortunate kilt in that picture. I mean that's just sad.
