My Burns (The best of two worlds)

Hi All I just thought I'd post to tell you about my Burns night supper a week ago.
Last Saturday was the big day. The Cally was holding it's Burns Supper in Oslo .Heres a shot of the venue

It is the Callys 6oth Anniversary and what better way to start this year of celebrations, than with the annual Burns Supper. This year, the immortal memory was presented by our Patron the Rt. Hon. The Earl of Caithness P.C. Malcolm Sinclair.

We were 109 Guests and Members .The president Norman delivered his Address to the Haggis with his usual finesse and the Haggis was put out of it's misery with a swift stab from his Sgian Dhu. Then the Haggis was dished out to the hungry hoard.

There were Toasts to the Queen and to the King (The Norwegian king)and all the usual banter at table you would expect from 109 male guests. After the Haggis came the bagpipe recital given buy the Callys own piper. This was followed by a desert (I can't remember what that was...I wonder why??)
Then Came the affor mentioned immortal memory by Lord Malcom.
Things start to get a bit hazy now. We had coffee and retired to the bar for more whisky and a raffle (In which I won nothing). By around Midnight we were all done for this year.
Heres a pict of Sten Rune and My mate at the Cally David Wyllie

Just around the corner from the venue is the best Irish Pub in Oslo the Dubliner. We were arond 12 that made it there all in PC full rigg. We had a great time Drinking Guinness and listening and watching to the music and dancing...Oh and did I mention the Guinness....

We took a taxi back to David (A mate) house and were greeted next morning with the full Scottish breakfast including more Haggis......Lets just say we ate a hearty Breakfast......
    What a weekend

Much fancier than the basement of a church and toast with water though our meal was good but we did't have candles. You norweigians sure know how to party by staying up till breakfast. ;) A few Aquavits? Ohh Soo I digress. Needless to say you had fun

What a splendid celebration, David. Not having been invited to a Burn's Nicht Dinner for many a year, I am intensly jealous! However, for me Haggis is like the kilt - it's for everyday, not just for special occasions! Not that I have Haggis everyday, but I certainly have it once a fortnight on average . Anyway, I am very glad you had a good time.

By the way, is that a Dress Freelander that I see bedecking Sten Rune - if that fellow is Sten Rune?

    David,

What an elegant venue. It does sound like you had a good time, but do not look on it as not winning the raffle, but a chance to be the real winner in Kilt wearing extrodinaire!

    Earl of Caithness

Glad the Burns Night was a success...You cant beat a good feed of Haggis, neeps & tatties all washed down with copious amounts of good Malt.
I do hope that 'His Lairdship' was dressed less like something off a shortbread tin than he was at a bash in New York in 2004...

That is a beautiful setting for Burns Night - very elegant. By your description, it was certainly a night to be long remembered. Thank you for sharing your experience. The pictures are wonderful.

    The Cally's Burns Night...

Sounds grand, David! I wish I could have been there!

The venue was the fortress in Oslo, wasn't it? I wish we had something like that in Springfield for our Burns Suppers.

Was this Sten's first Burns Supper? (I'm just full of questions, aren't I?)

    Cheers,

    Todd
