    Princess Mary tartan history

I just added kilt 12 to my wardrobe. This vintage kilt is in the Princess Mary tartan (identified as the Princess Mary muted, although, I would say it is more like a weathered tartan.) I have read what is said in: http://www.tartansauthority.com/Web/...yalTartans.asp. Can someone provide any additional information on this tartan, such as why was it designed and when.

It's a variation of Royal Stewart. The STA notes read:
It was popular in the 1920s to name fashion tartans after members of the Royal Family of the day and one explanation says that the Princess Mary comes into this category. Originally described in 1930 as the Green Stuart, it - and colour variations - has been marketed since that date as the Princess Mary.
