I'm 5'10" with a 32" inseam and the Stillwater fits me like a traditional kilt should. It sits about two inches above my navel and hits at mid-knee. So I gather its not just total height but also the length of your thigh bone?

...and the shape of your pelvis. Height really has nothing to do with it; it's all about the waist-to-knee length. I'm 4" taller than you, yet it sounds like our kilts hang have only about an inch difference.

I'm 6 foot even and a 24" long kilt would fit me like a dress. My pant inseam is only 30"...still waiting for SWK to submit to reality and offer varied lengths, rather than cherry pick the market...kinda like shoe companies that no longer offer wide shoes...their business, their choice....but sad for me

Well below the knee on me? Not at all! I wear it pretty much at the traditional level, just above my navel. My inseam is 32", and you can see where the kilt falls.

Hmmm, SWK sure brings out the discussion.
I stand in at 5'6" with shoes. Even if I wear this as a traditional, it will look like a dress.
Am I hearing you all wear your swk as a trad? Should I be considering something else for wear with tshirts and nikes? Or is this what I want, but shortened?

I think your going to want something lighter for summer. In the way of tartan kilts you should look at USA Kilts. They will be a bit more than the Stillwater Standard but you will be a lot more comfortable. Keep in mind that USAK's price includes shipping, so Stillwater @ $90 delivered compared to USAK's $110 delivered and fits right out of the box. You're only $20 dollars apart! You'll spend $20 in alterations and time.

If PK was still producing I'd refer you to that for a solid or camo kilt but, Freedom Kilts can hook you up also. Or trool the UK scratch-n-dent list.

Edit: I don't know why I assumeed you would be hiking, I think I saw nike and thought hike. I've deleted all mention of hiking from the above post

Thanks for all the posts. I wear mine right about at the navel, the same as my UK's and PK, which puts the hem right at the top of my knee. I think my inseam is a 34".

And I had forgotten about the fact that overall height is not the best indicator, inseam probably comes closer to a good indicator of where a SWK will hit the knee, depending on where worn.

    KCW,
I'm three inches shorter but also have a 34 inseam and my SWK hits me at the top half of the knee with an inch to 1.5 above the navel.

I don't do tradition. This is my SWK Nightstalker.

I think "Traditional" refers to where the kilt sits at your waist - not what else you wear with it. Am I right on this one?
