Argyll waistcoat to match?

I have a "standard" black barathea Argyll jacket, purchased off the peg a couple of years ago. I am considering getting a 5-button Argyll waistcoat to go with it.

Do you think it will be possible to match the fabric? Is the best option just to take the jacket in to a shop and see whether it can be matched?

I was also thinking of this...I've an Argyll without a waistcoat also.

I know several online shops who sell seperate waistcoats, but I'm not sure if they'll match my argyll jacket....

So long as you are having the vest made by the same company, and from the same cloth, I don't think you'll have a problem.

If it is a quality item, the cloth should be a nice strong black, and it should be pretty uniform from one garment to another.

The only instances I can recall seeing jackets and vests that were off-color were cheaper ones coming out of Pakistan.

Yesterday I sat down and watched for the first time a 1984 make of "Greystoke, the legend of Tarzan" and was surprized to see a large collection of Kilt wearing men at a party and the assortment of kilts was great but what was even better was the way many of the kilts were worn, all were of course tartan but the assortment of kilt jackets and the colors of vests or waistcoats if you will was enough to tell me that a red vest looks great with any kilt jacket, this was a Christmas eve party so I guess a red vest was appropriate.

Life would be a whole lot easier if you took it in to get matched it is possible to match it from description but very rare.

Alternatively, if you can tell which company made the jacket (Gaelic Themes, etc) than you can probably find a better deal online for the waistcoat. My local shop sells the black argyles for $399 and the waistcoats for $150. Meanwhile I got my jacket and waistcoat online for $380. Sometimes the local shops are just a wee bit pricey.

Another option that you might want to consider is a charcoal grey waistcoat to go with your argyle. Eliminates the worry about dye lots of clothe.
