I moved the thread to the off-topic section. Now on to my list! ;)
The Scotch-Irish by James Leyburn
Highland Heritage: Scottish-Americans in the American South by Celeste Ray
Great Scots! How the Scots created Canada by Matthew Shaw
Scots in the North American West 1790-1917
A Dance Called America by James Hunter
Scottish Highlanders, Indian Peoples by James Hunter
How the Scots invented the modern world by Arthur Herman
Collins Scottish clan & family encyclopedia by George Way & Romilly Squire
Ian Zaczek's Illustrated History of Tartan & World Tartans
District Tartans by Teall & Smith
The Scottish Regiments by Dr. Diana M. Henderson
The Steel Bonnets by George Macdonald Fraser
Stuart Reid:
1745: A military history of the last Jacobite uprising
Highland Clansmen (Osprey warrior series)
Macrae's Battalion by Jack Alexander -- the history of the 16th Royal Scots, made up largely of Heart of Midlothian Football Club players in WWI.
Reid has written a number of titles under the Osprey banner -- short, to-the-point, and great illustrations.
D**med Rebel B*tches by Maggie Craig -- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- one of the best histories of the '45 I've read in a long time -- deals with the role of women in the '45, but a nice general read about the '45 as well.
Culloden 1746 by Peter Harrington (Osprey)
Robert the Bruce's Rivals: The Comyns 1212-1314 by Alan Young -- One of the BEST books I have read on Scottish history, and I'm not just saying that because it's "my" clan that the book deals with. Very detailed and well-researched. Braveheart's portrayal of Robert the Bruce is not that far off.
Scottish Highlanders by Charles Mackinnon -- another excellent one-volume read with some interesting perspectives on the Jacobite Rebellions and the Highland Clearances
The folklore of the Scottish Highlands by Anne Ross
More to come, I'm sure!
Cheers,
Todd
