Ah well, the Canuck women had to settle for bronze in curling. But, the men are going for gold later today. Turns out the Provincial Government of Newfoundland & Labrador have given school kids and Gov employees the afternoon off to watch. The Canuck team is from NF & Lab.
US was beating GB 4-1 not too long ago, not sure now.

When I was a teen we went to a camp in the Chicago Suburbs. We were running around and throwing the football (the American football) and came across a big stretch of mud....perfect for a rollicking game of football.
We came back totally covered and caked and were informed by the head counselor that we had just played in the septic field for the camp.
After much showering and face-making we dubbed the day's event "The Toilet Bowl" and tried to put it out of our minds....

GOLD!!!! for Team Canada!
Final score Canada 10 Finaland 4
I thought Finland played extremely well. Thye unfortunately had one really bad end in the 6th. Winning first place is always better when you played a team that was equally deserving to win the gold. Good game to both teams.

I just want to know why not everyone in Canada got the schools closed and off work like they did in Newfoundland and Labrador http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/natio...day060223.html
Now, if only our men's hockey tam had pulled together and played that well.

Oh man, please don't remind me. We still have 4 years to go. I won't be able to afford transit, provincial taxes, a ticket to any event, or my Tim Horton's XL double-double by the time the Olympics hit here. Canada's games at BC's expense if you ask me.

As a good fan of the WORLD CHAMPION Chicago White Sox, I'd like to point out that it's:
NANANANA NANANANA HEY HEY GOODBYE.
Go ahead...gloat...get your little moment of glory...don't forget that the wheel goes round!
Seriously...big congrats.

Are you kidding? We'll all have to pay through the nose. Cripes, I was a new teen when the Olympics hit Montreal. Think my folks just finished paying that off! And the roof on the Big O still doesn't work right.

I meant more in terms of local transit (apparently we have it), inconvenience (up to the games), constant construction, etc, etc.... never mind the cost. We are already one of the most expensive places to live in Canada, and costs keep going up with the Olympics as the excuse for private companies to charge more. We won't even get into the lack of trades people and contractors that are now unavailable as they all went after the Golden Ticket (any Olympic contract).
So far it is an over budget headache here that has the politicians focusing less and less on local needs in favour of impressing the world. I just hope they all remember they may not be in power in 2010
I shudder to think how people are actually able to pay rent in Whistler now. My cousin lived there 8 years ago and paid $800/month to share a house with 3 other people.
I still don't understand why we even submitted a proposal. This was the first year that I could remember in ages where we actually had snow on the mountains past December. BC is a great place for the Winter Olympics, but the Interior (Kelowna, Kamloops, etc) would have been the better choice for conditions, events, and hosting.

Hosting an Olymics is always a losing proposition. You never get back the cost of the facilities and they usually end up being a white elephant for the host city. I don't understand the need for prestige that calls for picking the publics pocket like that.
