I meant more in terms of local transit (apparently we have it), inconvenience (up to the games), constant construction, etc, etc.... never mind the cost. We are already one of the most expensive places to live in Canada, and costs keep going up with the Olympics as the excuse for private companies to charge more. We won't even get into the lack of trades people and contractors that are now unavailable as they all went after the Golden Ticket (any Olympic contract).
So far it is an over budget headache here that has the politicians focusing less and less on local needs in favour of impressing the world. I just hope they all remember they may not be in power in 2010
I shudder to think how people are actually able to pay rent in Whistler now. My cousin lived there 8 years ago and paid $800/month to share a house with 3 other people.
I still don't understand why we even submitted a proposal. This was the first year that I could remember in ages where we actually had snow on the mountains past December. BC is a great place for the Winter Olympics, but the Interior (Kelowna, Kamloops, etc) would have been the better choice for conditions, events, and hosting.
