Those boots look rather good too - not that I need boots - I have too many pairs of boots - not quite the Emelda Marcos of boots but I have more pairs than I could ever wear out even if science could extend the active life of a short fat 55 year old to - maybe 200 years.

They might, though - better be prepared - so - what sort of boots are they and are they as comfortable as they look? Hmm?

Pleater .. The make of the boots are 'Converse'. I call them 'boxing' boots. I have two other pairs, green and white. I find them extremely comfortable.

Sorry Derek, I did miss your reply. Mind you, at a 100-200 new posts each day, not even my team of writers can pick up on every post.

That reminds me, Derek, I have to use a cane anyway when I walk, and it's about time that I replace my beatup, cheap looking cane with something that compliments the kilt. Maybe something with a nice brass or amber grip.

You mentioned that the lady behind the counter said that she did not even have a skirt at present. Made me think that I can't even remember the last time my wife wore a skirt - she only has a couple. I would not be surprised if many women no longer have skirts or dresses. I could be wrong, but I think that is due to what the fashion industry has designed for women to wear as far as skirts go - they are designed to emphasize a womens figure rather than for comfort or practicality.

The styles are part of it. Other factors would be...

...the need to wear pantyhose: they give a smoother line & help cover up yuckies like spider veins, but hold in moisture & are killer in the summer heat.

...what's in style: the fashion industry has pushed slacks more than dresses & skirts, at least in the teen world. Those of us older than that tend to wear what we want.

...and...Fat Thighs! They rub together most uncomfortably. Tr*****s put some fabric there that prevents this.

I hope that's not TMI, but sometimes Truth is painful.

I've bought some really nice canes online but I find that my best canes have all come from trips to my local tobacconist. It's a strange thing that places that sell pipes also tend to have the best selection of canes. I'm not going to recommend you buy anything else there because this is neither the time nor the place for that, but a tobacconist is a great place to start. Here are some other links to cane sites I've used:

And I've also found some decent ones on eBay (http://search-desc.ebay.com/walking-...MEFSRCHQ3aSRCH)

Aye. I have a pair of them in all black. I wear them with my Utilikilt. From a distance, they look just like leather combat-boots. Very comfortable
