Addenda and corrigenda
Some corrected measurements on my sporran and sporran wallet, by tape measure rather than memory.
My daily use sporran measures 6" tall x 7" wide by 2" thick. Depite the fact that I am 6'1" and have largish hands I can insert my fist into it quite comfortably. It may be the extra 1/2" of depth that makes the difference. Though I try to organize it so that I don't have to actually dig around in it. The soft leather makes a big difference in the utility of the sporran. My standard design semi-formal sporran actually measures 7 1/2" x 7 1/2", though only about 1" deep, but the stiff leather front and back greatly constrict the size of anything that can go into it, though my sporran wallet fits quite nicely, as well as my keys. I just have to forgo anything else.
My sporran wallet is actually 5 1/2" long, 4" wide and ca 3/4" thick at maximum stuffing. I got it at Target, not Kmart, though I've seen similar there. It actually came from the womens' wallets section, though there are similar products sold for men to carry in their suit coat pocket. Those, however, are designed on the assumption that you will carry your change in your pockets. The design of mine is gender-neutral, plainly cut dark brown leather. I got it on sale for $2.95, IIRC, but the list price was only $9.
I'm looking now for something designed like my nylon belt pouch, but in dark brown leather.
