    Thanks for the great advice

    Hi Everybody

Thanks a lot for all the great advice on sporrans and I checked out all the links to the sporrans to see what they look like etc. While surfing the net ( I've read the net several times , but they keep adding more stuff to it ) I found this link showing an interesting pattern for Jacobite style sporran that looks like it might have plently of room. Here is the link so check it out

Once again thanks for the info and when I have some photos I'll post them

The Country Sporran is 7 1/2" high, 7 1/2" at it's widest, and about 1 1/2" deep. The mouth is about 6" wide. It sort of oblong shaped. The leather is very flexible, so some stuffing is possible as it will bulge out quite a bit.

I like its simple design as it can be worn sith about anything.

    Thanks Dave,

I'm feeling kinda stupid here - I have two BK Country Sporrans....didn't realize "that" was what we were talking about.

Big as they are, this rotund old guy has trouble getting his hand in them and finding the stuff he puts in there.

The BK Country Sporran's limited size (for me) is why I stepped up to the next size with the Nativearth #6 pouch adaptation.

When I lay the former on the later the extra space is obvious...what "I" need. Ain't it great there's such an array of sporrans to choose from for personal size, taste, and occasion.

    Kiwi,
I just completed two sporrans using the diagrams you posted. I'll post pictures as soon as I get a free moment.
It is really not a hard project if you are already conversant with stitching leather. If you've never done leather work before you'll be in for a bit of a struggle. I have advice for you either way, so feel free to PM me for details.

    Addenda and corrigenda

Some corrected measurements on my sporran and sporran wallet, by tape measure rather than memory.

My daily use sporran measures 6" tall x 7" wide by 2" thick. Depite the fact that I am 6'1" and have largish hands I can insert my fist into it quite comfortably. It may be the extra 1/2" of depth that makes the difference. Though I try to organize it so that I don't have to actually dig around in it. The soft leather makes a big difference in the utility of the sporran. My standard design semi-formal sporran actually measures 7 1/2" x 7 1/2", though only about 1" deep, but the stiff leather front and back greatly constrict the size of anything that can go into it, though my sporran wallet fits quite nicely, as well as my keys. I just have to forgo anything else.

My sporran wallet is actually 5 1/2" long, 4" wide and ca 3/4" thick at maximum stuffing. I got it at Target, not Kmart, though I've seen similar there. It actually came from the womens' wallets section, though there are similar products sold for men to carry in their suit coat pocket. Those, however, are designed on the assumption that you will carry your change in your pockets. The design of mine is gender-neutral, plainly cut dark brown leather. I got it on sale for $2.95, IIRC, but the list price was only $9.

I'm looking now for something designed like my nylon belt pouch, but in dark brown leather.

I have finally figured out what my problem is. I'm so used to having multiple pockets in my jeans that everything has a place. With the sporran, it all goes into one pouch and thus I have to unload it to find an individual item.

I went to Walmart today and got a different style wallet and a combination key ring/change purse to try and organize a little better when I'm kilted. Maybe that will help some.

I still want to get a Freelander someday.
