Nifty sock idea

I really dislike it when my flashes are connected with velcro, and sometimes the metal clasps can seem a bit clunky.

So I'm thinking, why can't a set of flashes be made with a solid loop of elastic? Why does it need a clasp? If I size the elastic to my legs, I could then just slip them on and off before I put on my shoes. I know it would be a bit like a garter, but why not?

It absolutley can be done, it's the way I've done all my flashes. I only own one pair of store bought which is done with a double sided velcro strip (one side hooks ,one side nap) catches the socks like crazy which makes me crazy. needless to say they don't get used much. fortunately handmade flashes are QED.

Could also use some ribbon. Tie it around the leg, do a normal shoelace style knot, turn over the kilt hose, then let the loops and tails of the ribbon pieces stick out from underneath the turndown. Then, if you're longhaired and want to go with the 18th century look, use the rest of the ribbon to tie your ponytail.

On a more serious note, making your own flashes is easy and an excellant way to save some money.

Now feel free to tell me why I should not do that. .

Well, when asked "the question," you'd certainly be truthfull when you said, "Looks like some of my wife's hair..."

Actually I didn't have any rubber bands in the home that were wide enough, so I used the hairbands. The rubber bands idea was great (did you post that tip?), I was just out of them. I think both ideas are great, I'm just feeling a little proud of my 2 cents.

What? No rubber bands in the house? What do you shoot at your wife to annoy her? You can't just spit watermelon seeds at her, that shows a total lack of imagination!

I don't understand why so many folks have problems with the velcro garters. Place the side with the nap against your leg, wrap the other end around your leg and fasten it down. If they are long enough, the hooks will only contact the elastic strap and come nowhere near your socks. It helps if the velcro is narrower than the elastic. I use 1.5" elastic and 1" velcro. Very comfy, and I can adjust them throughout the day to stay that way.

I don't have problems with the elastic garters, I'm just too cheap and lazy. One day, though.

Also, I DO NOT SHOOT RUBBER BANDS AT MY WIFE! I spray her cats with the sink hose.

A lot of my flashes slide right off the elastic rig. I use the flashless elastic to hold up my kilt hose when casual.

Tried it once without the elastic and the hose fell down from walking. Was embarrassing, was on a found body scene and there were macho cops all over...I was forever tugging up my kilt hose....not the impression I wanted to present.

That long morning sold me on elastic without the flashes.
