I have the same belly...quit drinking, but the beer belly remains.

Don't know if it helps or not but you could check some of the pics in my gallery and also check Ham's gallery for even better shots. You can link to his from IMFF where mine is...

    Hope that's not too confusing...

I had the same problems sitting with a rigid backed sporran. I don't know what kind your using but I solved most of the problem by getting a softer sporran which bends with my body when I sit. Now I only consider wearing a rigid backed sporran when I need something formal/semi-formal and it's not going to be with me that long. I figure why wear a more comfortable kilt only to be assaulted by an uncomfortable sporran?

While my gut is not too bad right now, I understand the sporran bunching. I think one of the main tricks it too wear the kilt at the right height (on the gut) and let the sporran find it's place by trying different holes in the belt. You will find the spot that is natural and looks best. I think the worst thing to do is to wear a traditional style kilt under the gut! This makes the kilt look bad, uneven, unbalanced, and may cause the kilt to bunch up too. The sporran will never fit right if the kilt is already bunched up.

Maybe it is the way he wears his kilts, but Hamish does not have a gut at all. He may not have the 6 pack, but he is a very average build. I have seen him in his gallery, and I have had the pleasure of meeting Hamish in person, and I would have never thought that he had a gut.

I'll try the soft sporran. There's a Michael's in town that sells squares of leather from Tandy, hopefully they aren't to expensive.

    wearing a sporran

I've posted about this problem as well. The trouble is that with us big guys the sporran chain/strap can't sit on the hips and so drops, pulling the loose material underneath with it. I recently bought a thing from America called 'The Craigie Sporran Sling' which snaps over the belt at the front and lets the sporran hang on it's chain without interfering with the kilt underneath. You can slide the loops back and forth to raise or lower the hight of the sporran and it works really well. I've also found that the traditional sporran chain sits better when looped over the kilt buckles, especially on a heavyweight kilt. As for the correct hight to wear the sporran even the experts can't agree on that one. One source said that it should cover the genitals while another says that it should sit on the bellybutton. We're all differant shapes and sizes so I guess you just wear your sporran at the hight that suits you best.

Colin, dear friend, if ever there is anything I can do for you in return (within reason and always supposing it is not a request for hard cash) you have but to ask!

My "very average build" has to be my only 'average' feature - after all, I am unique; a one-off!!

Of course!!!! The Hamish Quartet!!! That's why we have to wait so long for the kilt makers to get our kilts made!!

    It's all clear to me now . . .
