I'm wearing my AK at work as I type this. The six snap fastening system is similar to UK, but in vertical pattern and not tapered, like UK. I find the actual snaps a bit smaller and lighter weight and each snap seems to have a tighter purchase. I unsnap each more carefully than on the UK, since I'm more concerned about their pulling out from the fabric, but that may be unfounded.

The Velcro closure on the waistband, which at first seemed “cheesy,” now seems to make sense. It allows for a better fit and adjustability if your waistline changes.

A word about belt loops. I have to commend AK on a narrower set of loops—2” rather than the 3”. Fits most belts better without the rollover effect.

I have 5 AK's and would agree that there is some adjustability. I've dropped about a waist size and still have a good fit. What I do on the snaps is to grip the edge of the snaps to open them rather than pull on the material. I agree about the 2" belt loops. I have the AK black belt and it fits great with these loops - no rollover at all.

Also, depending on which AK you have, there is quite a bit of weight difference. I have the tan, denim, corduroy, khaki, and olive. The tan and denim are light weight, the corduroy and khaki are considerably heavier, the olive falls about in the middle as far as weight when compared with the others. Can't comment on the weight of the black and brown since I don't have them. I really like the look and feel of the AK's, and even the lighter weight tan and denim are very durable.

One thing to be aware of - these kilts are combed cotton twill, the pleats will get creases and wrinkles so make sure you do a good sweep before sitting to minimize this. One exception, I have yet to get a single wrinkle in the pleats of the chestnut brown corduroy.

I have a black Micro-Fiber Amerikilt, and though it does wrinkle, it hangs out pretty well.

I agree with some of the other comments here, but I like the AmeriKilt as a casual kilt.

Can anyone tell me where the black AK falls in terms of weight compared to their other colors? I live in Florida so I don't care if it is "heavy" or not , I am just curious. I am still planning on ordering one at the end of the month , but without ever seeing one up close, I guess my curiosity is getting the best of me.

Thanks for the review! I had been interested in the Forest or Olive AK, now I think I will go for the khaki (looking for something appropriate for hiking).
