My Cameron Black and Red tank is Here!

Back about 1850 my three great grandmother Catherine Cameron sailed with her husband John Macdonald and their kids from Staffin, Skye to Skye Glen, Nova Scotia on Cape Breton Island to start a new life.

I ordered this kilt in her honor. Its my fifth tank and my fourth from Kathy Lare of Kathy's Kilts. The tartan is Cameron Black and Red from the House of Edgar's Old and Rare collection. It was a three month wait for the mill. Once Kathy had the material it was just a three week wait for my turn to have it sewn up.

13 ounce, 8 yards, hand sewn by Kathy. Also got the flashes.

Picked it up at the post office at lunch time and tried it on with what I had on, wouldn't wear tan with it otherwise.

Here's a picture of the perfect pleatwork Kathy does, and this is right out of the box.

If the pic doesn't make it past your firewall there are some more in my gallery....and pics of the other three tanks Kathy has sewn up for me. All perfect.

Such a joy to have a kiltmaker trained in Scotland in the old ways who has my size and shape down pat.

Looks good Ron. Actually, the tan shirt doesn't look bad with it.

I'm going to have Kathy make my XMarks kilt when the upcoming run is complete.

Very nice Ron. And I have to say that the tan makes a very good match. I would have agreed with you, before seeing the picture, that tan would not match well, but it really does look nice.

    Ooh, the versatility of tartan!

That is one mighty fine Kilt you have Ron.

    A fairly nice combination too.

Congrats on another kilt from Kathy, and in a family tartan, no less. I'm going to have to visit your site to see the blow up pics, 'cuz the shot on the board doesn't do her work justice.

Bryan...are you gonna hike in this one, too?

    Ron,

Another great looking kilt, the tan shirt looks good with the kilt. Try it with a pair of oatmeal kilt hose, IMHO it will make a great looking outfit.

That's a great kilt! And I love the back story. To me that's one of the best things about kilts, each tartan has a story to tell.

That's a good weight, and your seamstress has done a top job by the looks.
It's great to hear the story (to echo matt) and it always adds to your own "personal mythology". Honouring your mothers' blood like that is a fine thing.

I was thinking on an aesthetic note that you try the stone hose or obviously the black. the flashes would look flash indeed on the black.

    Hey Bryan,

I'm wearing the new Cameron kilt to work today to break it in. Best I can manage is a natural white shirt, black kilt hose with flashes...think I need one of those Johnny Cash black shirts now.

Friday, I'm headed up to your chilly state for a weekend of soaking in Orvis Hot Springs at Ridgeway. Planning to take some scenic pics with the new kilt on the trip. Think the black and red would look good with a snowy backdrop

Hoping the promised break between storms holds over Red Mountain Pass.
