I feel like I actually fit into this kilted Community now
Being a new kilt wearer I must say that I now actually belong to this kilted community. How is this? Well, I've been a kilt owner for 2 weeks now, and in this time I've worn my kilt 4 times. Not too bad for a 1 kilt guy if you ask me. But, That's not it. The real reason I feel like I now belong is because I've finally been asked "the question".
First was by a girl in her mid twenties, who asked me out of the blue as I walked down the street. She looked a bit rough, and I just smiled and kept walking.
Later at the pub, I was asked by a guy, as part of a general discussion about kilts. I used the standard "shoes and socks" answer which raised quite a chuckle from all involved in the conversation.
Thought I'd share this. Hope you all enjoy it.

"Welcome to the real world" comes to mind
I'm a couple of weeks ahead of you, and wear my one kilt three or four times a week - always well-received.
I bought my kilt to use for weddings and other celebrations, but took me the first day after its arrival to understand that "hey, this is great!" - and now its worn for just about any occasion.
Thanks for sharing, I never get tired of reading people's experiences. An answer that works for me (when guys ask) is to look at them seriously, and say "I have always considered you as serious heterosexual, so you surprise me now. Any plans of coming out from the closet...?"
Enjoy!

Are we taking bets for how long you remain a 1 kilt guy? Good luck!

Good line, but kinda' like waving a red flag in front of a bull, don't you think? I think the only time I'd use it would be if I were in a contrary mood, and the guy was purposely being insulting. Most people that ask the question really don't realize they're being insulting; If I'm not into playing games with them, I'll just point that out - the old "would you be insulted if I asked you, out of the blue" response.

Quite true, and I do have to consider who asks the question - is he much bigger than me??
Seriously though, I have used the line with success on people I have seen before. Total strangers have not had the guts - or any interest in - asking me the question
