Interesting point Colin and one I have considered from time to time. This isn't the forum for flag waving or political agendas but certainly groups are bound to be offended by us fur and leather touting hoons that we are.
I've experienced (pre-kilted days) inscenced vegan activists screaming in my face about my leather boots. Some refuse to eat honey as it's an animal product. well it's all good as far as i'm concerned.
I suppose it comes down to a personal sense of responsibility. I'm not about to rush out to get a seal skin sporran as beautiful as they in fact are, but i'm very likely to hunt, tan and make a fox, hare, feral cat or dog or even a roo or walaby for a sporran. If it's deemed endangered it's probably for a reason. That's just where i'm at.

No matter what you do somebody is going to get offended by it. I was walking near the University campus a while back wearing my homemade dress sporran and a couple kids started giving me a load of garbage about the fur sporran. I just told em it was fake fur (which it is. I'm not wasting real fur on a first attempt). This didn't seem to register with them as they just got more vehement because it LOOKED like fur. I tried walking away but they followed ranting away. I finally stopped, turned and read them the riot act about being hypocrits and fools. That has been my only encounter with the lunatic fringe, most simply don't pay any attention. The seal hunt is only an issue because seals look "cute". You never see those clowns griping about killing rats or snakes. It's a fake issue unless the species is truely endangered. That comes from the Walt Disney view of nature, Bambi and Thumper sitting in the forest having tea and conversing. They have no clue of the way nature really works.

Northern California seems to be the headquarters for Veganism and PETA members. Right now they seem to more interested in going after high-profile targets like cosmetics firms that do animal testing and celebrities who wear real fur coats.

Some Vegans and PETA folks are also targeting schools to try to get kids away from eating meat. They pose it as a health issue, but their politics are really about the rights of animals.

I believe in animal rights. Animals should have the right to eat PETA members.
