Hello, all! My name is Will (smile, bow) and I'm looking forward to joining the kilted brotherhood, tho' I have not yet done so. I was planning on picking up a Utilikilt at DragonCon this year, because I kind of thought they were the only (casual kilt) game in town, but a bit of internet research has shown me that that's =definitely= not the case! I'm still planning on getting a UK, but now I'm thinking about getting either an AmeriKilt or a Buzz Kidder Canvas Kilt as my first kilt. Anyone with further advice/suggestions, feel free to speak up! Thanks!

Welcome. My advise, skip all of them and go for a Freedom Kilt. If you want a casual contempory kilt, start with the best of the lot.

I'd advise starting off with a cheap Pakistani made polyester kilt that bears a good visual resemblance to the style of traditional Scottish kilts -in the states the Stillwater Economy Kilt seems to be the one to go for; I've got two by the Mercy Clothing Company, bought in Britain.

Of course, the end result is the same - you wind up acquiring more kilts and the stuff to make them and the stuff that goes with them (all nicely accessorized, if possible, but if not...??) and learn all the lingo and the jokes and the retorts (absorb the culture...) give up all your fair-weather friends and make new ones who accept the "new" you and ... (breathe)

What is really weird is I have now made a kilt and have a wool tank a standard SWK and I like to wear my SWK economy Gordon

Just wear what you feel good in.

Welcome! I'm still pretty much a newbie myself. I started with a Utilikilt mocker and was very pleased with the quality of the product. I imagine it is going to last me for years. Sadly, what the others said is true. One kilt is not enough! There is a lot of good information and fun people here.

Thanks for the outpouring of advice and welcome, guys! And Colin, believe me, Freedom Kilt is definitely on my short list! So is Pittsburgh Kilts, but I emailed Jeff at Pittsburgh Kilts and unfortunately he says he likely won't be back in the game anytime soon .
