Absolutely wonderful job! You'll wear if often - as much to recoup your investment of labor and love, as well as the comfort.

One tiny question. I see that you chose the military style pleating, but not to the white (vertical) stripe. Like the kilt by PDCORLIS, the absence of the white stripe "softens" the presentation. Was that your intention?

It's actually pleated to that white vertical stripe, but I suppose that picture doesn't convey that very well due to lighting and the sharpness of the pic.
Here's a better picture of the pleating before I put the waistband on:

and one of the pleats spread a little bit:

GREAT JOPB, mate! Excellent results and something to be proud of. I, too have decided to put my left hand belt buckle on the inside. I'm not saying if that's on purpose or the result of poor planning!
Congratulations, and Well Done!

My apologies
I apologize for doubting your description regarding the stripe. Perhaps it's time for the trifocals *sigh* But, hey, it got some more really great pictures out of you. Hamish, watch out!

Thanks for the extra photos - that is one fine lookiing kilt! Can you tell us how much sewing experience you had prior to this great adventure - or did I miss that somehow?

Phil,
I would say I have an average sewing skill. My mother always encouraged me to darn my own socks, fix any loose seams myself, and whatnot, and I absolutely loved sewing class in junior high, so I would say that I'm no neophyte, but I'm hardly a hardcore sewer. It is something I do enjoy, though, and my wife has conscripted me to make a dress for her..."preferably by hand because you do such a good job".
I do enjoy the challenge, and learning new things, and this project definitely fulfilled both of those. I look forward to making more and learning how to sew a much straighter line!
And thank you again to everyone for your kind words. If it wasn't for this forum, I doubt I'd have even tried it in the first place! X Marks rocks!

I was wondering if anyone made their own hose.
I've been making socks and stockings for about - a donkey's lifetime - so if anyone needs any of the arcane vocabulary of the knitted sock made clear, or wants to discus the merits of toe up as opposed to top down construction, it might be as well to start a new thread though.

Schultz, great kilt! The construction is excellent. Good on you!
