There are lots of good recordings out there but I always count on Wicked Tinkers to get my blood pumping. Clan an Drumma is a good choice too. I've got 'em both loaded on my computer to listen too while I'm checking postings here at "xmarks".

I'll start with the assumption that you mean only highland bagpipes. If you want other recommendations for recordings of other types of bagpipes, I can help you out there too. Just PM me, or we can fire up another thread.....whatever works.

Anything by Gordon Duncan is brilliant. His solo playing was the best. I'd particularly recommend "Thunderstruck". His light music recordings are my favourites. For piobeareachd playing I'd go straight to the source and recommend Donald MacPherson's "The Living Legend" CD. MacPherson won more prizes than I can list.

For a strictly highland pipe bands setting, anything at all by Simon Fraser University (SFU), St Lawrence O'Toole, or the 78th Frasers. The National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland is a real up and comer too.

For a more folk setting incorporating other instruments beyond pipes, I'd really recommend The Battlefield Band, especially when Dougie Pincock was their piper (not to belittle any of their other pipers). A personal favourite is "Celtic Hotel".

Start with the 78th Fraser Highlanders Live in Ireland.

It's the number one selling pure pipe band album of all time...

    and for a good reason.

The Victoria Police Pipe Band "Masterblasters" Asin#B00002ROWE, They have since disbanded.

I agree with Prestor John's suggestion anything by the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band.

If interested in The World Pipe Championship CD's/DVD's are available.

I always try to purchase CD's from bands that are at Highland Games, it helps to support them.

Anything with Robbie Crabtree, and you could never go wrong with one of the CD's from the Simon Fraser University pipeband. They have been world champs numerous times now. http://www.sfupipeband.com/html/sfu_store.html
