how to remove the pleat thread

When you get a new kilt, the pleats are sewn together. You need to remove this thread before you can wear it right. Be careful, though. If you try to pull it out all at once, you can rip a hole in your new kilt. Don't want that.

Every few pleats, be sure to cut the thread. Pulling it through uncut may put a damage your kilt.

The last few stitches can be difficult to get out of the pleats. Be patient and take your time. The kilt isn't going anywhere.

One more thread to pick out before I can wear it.

    Letting the kilt breathe

as with any fine wine, you need to let the kilt breath for a few minutes. Let it get used to freedom before you put it on for the first time.

    Pleats - up close

here is an up-close of the pleats. The kilt is pleated to the stripe, and looks pretty good.

and the final pics...wearing the kilt

I know, the sporran is a little off-center. Besides that, the kilt fits well, and is well made (by my standards, anyway). I am sure I'll get plenty of use out of it.

Here it the back of the new kilt. The pleats are almost deep enough to hide my entire hand. Pretty good job, if you ask me.

overall, I'm happy with the kilts. I've got one out of the bags and wearable. I'm going to get some dinner, see how it likes the real world. I am sure it is very tired of being sewn up in a plastic bag.

I would almost classify these as tanks...but since they are machine sewn and not 100% wool, I don't have a decent term for them (e-tanks, maybe?). Body armor seems pretty close, though.

Are the 4 kilts you received all the same tartan? They all looked the same. All these pictures of wool kilts makes me want one, but oh so many colors and what company to buy from? I don't have the money now anyway, and I think I will wait until winter. Jonesing already, and I can't even order one yet.

    DALE.

Yes, they are all blackwatch. While I really like the look about a great many tartans, something inside me feels a bit odd wearing one that I can't associate with. I'll prolly only every have these blackwatches, and a bunch of different MAcTavish / Thompson tartans.
