The only things I iron are the pleats on my kilts.

Ironing t-shirts is insane. Ironing all that stuff Ham describes, well, there isn't even a word for that. ;)
I won't buy clothes that need ironing. I steam the pleats in my kilts when necessary and I have the cleaner press and starch my tux shirts. Everything else goes from the dryer to a hanger or drawer.

Seriously, I HATE people telling me how to dress.. I've gotten VERY annoyed with past girlfriends for just that reason.
I just fold or hang my clothes as necessary. I never have a problem with wrinkling.

I certainly recall my mother and grandmother doing the same things and my being taught that certain articles of clothing should be pressed before folding/hanging them and putting them away. The women in my family (mom, grandmom, aunts, etc) were/are 'old school' Irish Catholics and they simply passed on what they'd been taught...nothing wrong with that, right?
Although Hamish makes a very good point (as usual) times change and the world moves at a faster pace every day (though I'm not a proponent of efficiency/progress just for the sake of it). I think the forgotten generation I'm a part of simply doesn't have the time for such domestic drudgery. But, thanks to my 'in-house training' I do own an iron (two, actually) and I will set time aside to press things that need it, excepting my t-shirts; they never really need an iron.
